The Cyber Duty to Protect (CDtP) programme aims to reduce at scale the high volume of low sophistication cyber crime – unauthorised access to computer systems – and cyber-facilitated crime such as fraud and abuse, and to reduce the burden on the citizen for their own cyber security. It has three main areas of focus: reducing unauthorised access through improving security of account login processes; hardening data held by providers to mitigate the risks of data breaches and; reducing the presence of malicious websites/servers through voluntary interventions by Internet Infrastructure Providers (IIPs).

We recognise that the technologies that affect the objectives of the Cyber Duty to Protect programme are not static therefore, we wish to consult with technology companies on the emerging technologies that could affect the programme. We believe this is an opportunity for technology companies to engage with and shape policy measures that could have a direct impact on their businesses as CDtP looks to implement both voluntary and legislative measures in this space.

Moving forward post-survey, CDtP is looking to carry out wider discussions in the form of roundtables with technology companies that are particularly involved in this space. This will provide an opportunity for these companies to express their opinions and views on emerging technologies.
